Introduction

Case reporting is frequently the initial step on the long roadto academic success, and may additionally broaden one’sexperience, as well as enhance the curriculum vitae for jobapplications, promotions, awards etc. Increasingly, researchis recognized as an integral part of both medicine anddentistry, and it is said that one either publishes or perishes.However, publishing does involve a lot of time, effort anduncertainty, and does not necessarily make a better doctor.1A case report is a means of exchanging information withcolleagues about unusual or unreported features, conditions,interventions, or complications, by publishing it in a journal– either hardcopy or online. It therefore contributes to thebody of scientific and clinical knowledge, and enhances onesself esteem and confidence, by seeing ones work in print.1,6
